The Importance of Patience

I am admittedly impatient (my rising sign is Virgo). While I nearly bubble over with anticipation of receiving my final samples back from my factory—mind you, we’re currently smack-dab in the middle of development of our upcoming, highly anticipated Spring Summer 2022 collection— I very often find myself pattern making for the very styles my factory is taking care of. It’s not at all that my factory is “taking too long”. In fact, they’re moving the development at great speed; and they’re a wonderful group of highly skilled women whom I’m very happy to know! The actual problem I’m facing is my own impatience. I have never been a “hurry up and wait” kind of person, although I do procrastination very well. I have been dreaming about this collection since February (literally), and I just can’t wait to hold physical, professionally finished samples of my vision in my hands.

So, I started making fit samples to use and perhaps photograph just to be able to show you something! Just to be able to say, “Look, Dearest! It’s here! This is what you’ve been dying to see!” If I would have not gone the professional route this time around and tried to do everything myself, I would have ended up having the same exact experience as I did with my previous label and had potentially the same result. While I learned a lot and was able to create a few collections, promote and sell them on a budget of around $1K, the results were always subpar. The biggest issue was always fit. I draped on a dress form and expected it to fit a real woman and I’m atoning for it now by dedicating most of the development to fit and the rest of my life to making sure that every woman who wears my clothes feels beautiful.

Even through a few missed or extended deadlines and the small fear of not having as successful of a launch, the overwhelming excitement and it far outshines any feeling of doubt. Each invoice I complete and every update from my factory brings me closer to being able to once again plant my flag and sing out to all you beautiful people that what we’ve all been waiting for all year is finally, finally here!

That day is soon, and there will be much more to share as we get closer to launch! If you’ve just joined us, be sure to follow the journey by signing up to the email list HERE and on Instagram @BRYANvanHAUGHTON!
