FAQ
What does Complimentary Repairs mean?
When you purchase a piece from BRYAN van HAUGHTON, that garment or accessory item is guaranteed up to three complimentary repairs per year for the lifetime of the item. This allows us to keep your purchases looking as new as the day you pulled them from the tissue paper and welcomed it into your life for the first time.
How does it work?
If your BRYAN van HAUGHTON clothing or accessory item is damaged and needs to be repaired with the correct fabric and trim replacement pieces, simply complete the repair request form here. It may also be helpful to attach clear, well-lit photos to the form in order for us to better assess the repairs needed and provide you with an estimated date of completion before you send it to us.
Once the damage assessment is complete after about 1-2 business days, we’ll send you an email with your link to pay the $8 shipping fee†. After your payment is complete, we’ll send you an email with your shipping label. All you need to do from there is download and print the label for your package and schedule a USPS pickup or drop it off at your nearest USPS location.
Should I expect the item to need to be repaired that often?
Not at all! All of our pieces are designed and produced with longevity in mind, adding to your existing curated wardrobe of high-quality forever pieces. With that said, we also know that sometimes life just happens. Getting your belt loop caught on a menacing door handle is one thing, but having it rip the belt loop off and tear a large hole in the back of your trousers is enough to sour a perfectly fine Tuesday afternoon.
Why should I take the time to send my items in for repairs?
This shouldn’t be where the love affair ends: in the trash. Although we highly recommend that you support your local tailor/alterations shop for all of your basic needs like hemming, sleeve shortening, etc., the garment may be damaged in an area that may not be cleanly repaired by even the most skilled tailors or seamstresses, therefore the original fabrics and trims will be needed to effectively repair the item to its original condition. We tend to keep a certain amount of deadstock fabric and trims left behind at the end of each collection cycle for just this purpose!
Will I need to keep my receipt in order to enjoy this service?
In most cases, proof of original purchase will not be required. No matter how you came about the ownership of your BRYAN van HAUGHTON piece (barring anything illegal!), we’re glad that you are just as excited as we are about extending its life cycle and keeping it out of a landfill!
What if my item can’t be repaired?
At some point, the piece’s life cycle will come to an end—sort of. If your item cannot be repaired to its original condition or the original fabrics and trims are out of stock and can’t be reordered, you will have the option to send us back your damaged item for store credit in the depreciated value of the item (based on the item’s condition and the original purchase price) to use toward your next BRYAN van HAUGHTON purchase.
What happens to the item at the end of its life cycle?
We’re so glad you asked! Textile waste is one of the fashion industry’s worst contributors to the global climate crisis. Unlike many fast fashion and luxury brands that destroy all that is damaged or unsold, we believe in the power of transformation. For example, a damaged-beyond-repair silk blouse may become up to four small accessories such as sleeping hair scrunchies, non-medical face masks, etc. Hardware and fastenings such as buttons and zippers are harvested and reused to produce new items or use in product development and sampling for future collections.
What if I exceed the number of complimentary repairs?
We will always be happy to accept items for repair, however, due to the emissions put into the environment during logistics, we have limited the number of complimentary* repairs per customer per year. A small service fee of $5 USD plus two-way shipping will be charged for repair requests exceeding the allotted three per year and will no longer be considered part of the complimentary repair service.
If the service is complimentary, am I required to pay for shipping?
While the repair itself is completely free, an †$8 one-way shipping fee is added. In providing this complimentary service, we’re waiving all labor fees for each repair. In some cases depending on the distance between you and our HQ in Central CA, this small fee may not cover the total cost of shipping, however, our top priority is extending the life of your BRYAN van HAUGHTON piece. This one-way shipping fee helps to get your item to us; once the repair is completed, we’ll get your item back to you with the shipping and handling fees on us!
I need repairs on several items, can I send them together?
We encourage you to combine your items for repair to help curb carbon emissions.
